Do I need a bass to start?

At Tannum Portelli Music, we believe that anyone can start learning bass guitar without the need for their own instrument. We provide our students with all the equipment they’ll need, with enough variety to suit all ages, sizes, and skill levels as they begin their music journey.

Although our provided equipment is always available for students to use during their lessons, we do encourage students to eventually graduate to a personal bass guitar and amplifier for practice outside of lessons. By being able to practice independently, students can reinforce their skills and develop their technique at their own pace - this can help make lessons become more focused on their specific goals and ambitions, and give students a real sense of ownership over what they learn. Moreover, owning their own equipment allows students the opportunity to customise their gear setup and explore their own unique sound preferences.

Can I start at any age?

It's never too late to learn bass!
If you've always wanted to learn to play bass guitar but worry that you may be too young or old, think again!

We’re confident we can tailor our lessons to suit anyone, regardless of age - young or old, you are welcome and encouraged to learn and play the bass guitar.

Whether you're looking to play bass like a pro, or just have some fun and be able to jam along to your favourite songs, bass guitar is a great instrument to learn. The sooner you start, the sooner you’ll start seeing results!
